Alpha Phi Alpha Plaque, presented to Duke Ellington

Description:

This plaque was presented to Duke Ellington by the Alpha Phi Alpha Brothers of the Nu Chapter at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania in 1970. It is a rectangular wood plaque with a metal engraved plate with a stylized scroll and laurels. The metal plate is engraved:

The Alpha Phi Fraternity(ΑΦΑ) is the oldest intercollegiate historically African American fraternity. It was founded December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The brothers of the Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha at Lincoln University have a long legacy of influential members including Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and scholar/actor/athlete activist Paul Robeson.
