Champion was a budget label manufactured by Gennett, the premier label of the Starr Piano Company, maker of pianos, phonographs, and records. Champion records were originally manufactured and sold by Kresge stores but became more widely available through other retailers. The Champion label was active from 1925 to 1934. The Champion trademark was sold to Decca Records, which continued to issue releases on Champion from 1935 to 1936
