The inscription on one side of this 6-inch celluloid ruler reads “A GOOD RULE TO FOLLOW BE SURE THAT THE BLUE LABEL / IS ON THE BOX WHEN YOU BUY YOUR NEXT CIGAR.” That on the other side reads “UNION MADE CIGARS HAVE THIS / BLUE LABEL / ON THE BOX.”
The Cigar Makers International Union was established in 1864, and adopted the Blue Label at its convention in 1880.
