Description (Brief):

This image was originally prepared by and printed in the U.S. Civil War era newspaper the "New York Illustrated News" (1859-1864). The image "Scene on the Potomac River near Acquia Creek - Part of the Gunboat Flotilla Convoying Merchangt Craft - Smoke on Right Marking Rebel Position" was published in the October 21, 1861 issue of the paper. It was sketched "by Special Agent A. Waud Esq."
