Description
Tommy Harper was one of many players featured on collectible coins made by Topps and included in packs of baseball cards.
An outfielder and third baseman, Harper played for various teams, including the Cincinatti Reds (1962- 67,) Cleveland Indians (1968,) Seatlle Pilots/ Milwaukee Brewers (1969-71,) Boston Red Sox (1972-74,) California Angels (1975,) Oakland Athletics (1975), and Baltimore Orioles (1976).
Harper was on the American League All-Star team in 1970. With Boston in 1973 he won the Bosox Man of the Year and the Thomas A. Yawkey Red Sox Most Valuable Player awards. Harper led the American League in most bases stolen with 73 bases in 1969 and 54 bases in 1973. Additionally, he scored the most runs in the National League in 1965 with 126.
Following his playing career, Harper served as a coach for the Red Sox and the Expos. In 2010, Harper was elected to the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.
