Porosity Apparatus

Description:

This porosity apparatus--also known as a filter (or filtering) cup--showed that, with sufficient pressure, mercury can be forced through wood. This example was purchased from Fortin & Hermann, in Paris, in 1830, for the use of cadets at the U.S. Military Academy.
