Right handed pitcher George Mullen (1880-1944) had five 20 win seasons for the Detroit Tigers between 1902-1913. During his tenure, the Tigers, led by star outfielder Ty Cobb, made three World Series appearances, all losses. In 1913 Mullen spent a brief time with the Washington Senators before finishing his career in the International and Federal Leagues.
The pitcher, with a lifetime record of 228-196 and an earned run average of 2.82, was known for his stamina, and ranks amongst the all-time leaders in complete games. An excellent hitter for his position, Mullen batted .262 for his career.
