This multi-color print shows a scene from a 19th century dame school. A “dame school” is one in which an older woman holds class for other families’ children out of her own home. Of note, are the cat lying next to the teacher’s feet, a boy wearing a dunce cap, and another boy peeking in through an open window. The print is of unknown date and artist. The only possible identifier is the name “Louis” that is handwritten in very small letters near the bottom right corner.
