The "Shore Instrument & Mfg. Co., New York. Pat. Apld for." inscription on this optical pyrometer refers to the firm founded by Alfred Ferdinand Shore (1877-1936), inventor, metallurgical engineer, and winner of the Elliott Cresson Medal of the Franklin Institute.
