Everett Fleet Morse (1857-1913) was an inventor and engineer with a degree from Cornell University who, having acquired the rights to a pyrometer suitable for determining the temperature of molten steel, established the Morse Thermo Gage Co. in Trumansburg, N.Y. A few years later, having outgrown that original facility, the firm moved to Ithaca.
