William Mogey began his career in the optics and astronomy industry in New York in 1882 and was joined by his brother David in 1888. The firm moved to larger premises in Bayonne, N.J., in 1893, and remained there until 1911. The inscription on this base for a surveyor’s transit reads “W. & D. MOGEY. BAYONNE, N.J. 350.”
