Description
John McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, was defeated by his Democratic opponent Barack Obama. This button features a photograph of the Little White Schoolhouse in Ripon, Wisconsin where, on March 20, 1854, a small group met to form a new political party. The organizer recalled, "We went into the little meeting held in a school house Whigs, Free Soilers, and Democrats. We came out of it Republicans and we were the first Republicans in the Union."
