Description
Photograph of a ¾ Moon glued to a glass plate. A handwritten paper label reads "Aug 15 1880 Exp(illegible)s 11 inch." This was taken by Henry Draper (1837-1882), an American physician who did important early work in astrophotography, much of it in the observatory he established on his father’s estate at Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. The 11-inch telescope used for this this image was an achromatic refractor with a photographic corrector made by Alvan Clark & Sons.
