Description
A metal tag on the front of this gas meter reads “D. MC DONALD & COMPANY.” An inscription on the gauge reads "The American Meter Co. New York." Donald McDonald (ca. 1809-1892) was an immigrant from Scotland who settled in Albany and, with his brother, began making wet gas meters in 1855. The firm of D. & H. McDonald became D. McDonald & Co. in 1857. It later became a part of the American Meter Company.
