Quarter Gill Measure
- Description
- Bulbous or bellied measure with a forward-scrolled thumb piece; quarter gill size. Low-domed lid with two incised lines around center. Molded, galleried rim and flared base; one pair of incised lines around body. No hinge lug; hinge is attached to plate burnt to the tapered S-scroll handle above the ridged thumbrest. Rim exterior stamped to left of handle "1/4 GILL" in incuse italic letters with two verification marks to left, a crowned "VR" mark for Fife County ("209") and the coat of arms of Glasgow. Bottom inside stamped "X".
