Noggin or Gill Measure
- Description
- Haystack measure; noggin or gill size. Conical or ovoid body with applied, molded neck, mid, and base bands; circular, everted rim with flared lip. Tapered, D- or ear-shaped handle has an arched and tongued thumbrest; upper scrolled terminal with stepped oval attachment below neck; flat lower terminal attached at midband. Front of body is stamped "1 NOGGIN" and "1 GILL", partially struck twice, all in incuse serif letters. Bottom exterior has crowned "X" in shield.
