Oval, flat-top, brown grain-painted hat box or trunk with a grooved midband around body, scrolled hasp lock on front, oval wire handle riveted to lid and one hinge at back. Wire-rimmed lid has two soft-soldered, lapped-seam pieces for the sides and a folded-edge top. Three-piece box has two folded, vertical seams for the sides and a flat bottom with folded edge; folded top edge with wire bead below. Interior painted flat blue; corrosion on bottom, possibly lined originally. No other marks.
