Description
Rectangular case with overall engine-turned decoration, top half has hinged lid and gold washed interior while bottom half contains a music box enclosed by a friction-fit cover. Lidded half is engraved on outside front of collar below tab "bey Seethaler und Sohn" and is struck with three hallmarks at inside center of lid and bottom, a six-pointed star motif, raised script initials, and a three-banded trapezoidal shape. Musical movement is stamped on underside of plate "A CHAPUIS & BARRAL / FECIT A GENEVE / 1812" and "3430", and at base of comb "C & B", all in incuse roman letters; "A Chapuis & Barral / fecit a Geneve 1812" is etched in script across drum. Inside right edge of lid and one end inside box cover are scratched "CP2603".
