Description
Bail-handled, footed, oblong dish or tray with peaked sides and relief-decorated, everted ends featuring raised clusters of fruits and flowers. Shaft with flared ends and triple-ring knop is joined to a double-domed pedestal base with engraved inscription "Maud from her Classmates June 5" 1883." above its reeded edge. Die-rolled, sawtooth-patterned bands are applied around tray rim and upper dome of base. Segmented arched handle with daisy medallions and rosettes is topped by a horizontal crosspiece. Base underside is struck incuse with a curvilinear shield containing "ROGERS.SMITH (arched) / - & C\o. - / MERIDEN C\T / QUADRUPLE (curved)" above "1824."
