Description
Trousers, Army, Mounted, Enlisted Man, Model 1854, Type I.
Sky blue wool twill trousers which formerly had five buttons at the fly and six buttons around the waistband. Buttons have been removed. There are two vertical slash pockets and a single watch pocket on the right side of the waist. The trousers are unlined. There is a "V" shaped slit and two eyelet holes for waist adjustment at the rear of the waistband. Waist facing and pockets are made of coarse cotton twill. "22 1 SA" is stamped at the center back right waistband facing. There is a number "5" written in red on the inside of the right pocket and there are orange/brown spots on the inside of the left pocket. The trousers are hand stitched with heavy brown thread. There is a second layer of wool kersey reinforcement covering the the inside of the seat of the pants to the bottom of the pant leg. There is a one inch slit at the bottom of the outside seam of each leg and there are two small tin buttons at each inside seam on the trouser cuff.
