Description (Brief)
Mexican Army hat ornament from the period of the Mexican-American War. The gilded brass insignia with mounting slide is in the shape of a central disk decorated with the Mexican eagle, surrounded by a sunburst. This object is part of the General Edward D. Townsend Collection of relics of the War of 1812, Mexican War, and Civil War. Townsend was the principal executive officer of the War Department during the American Civil War.
