Depicted is a large group of American soldiers in olive drab uniform holding their mess kits and gathered around the courtyard of a large stone building while they eat. A group of soldiers at back is waiting in line to receive food, while soldiers in the foreground are either standing or sitting down to eat after receiving their food. Two soldiers at right are sitting beneath a tree. A billow of smoke can be seen in the background at left, where the food is being cooked.
