Description
A frontal portrait of Robert L. Eichelberger depicted as Lieutenant General, Commanding First Army Corps, Commanding 8th Army Pacific Theater. An oil painting on an illustration board. A white man, Lieutenant General Eichelberger has gray hair, blue eyes, and is wearing an olive drab uniform coat with a tie. On his left chest, he is wearing seven military ribbons on his left chest and one ribbon on his right breast bone (ribbons identified below). He has the U.S. officer collar insignia on both sides of the collar. Three stars are seen on his shoulder straps indicating his rank as Lieutenant General. On his left shoulder, there is an Eight Army shoulder sleeve insignia. Lieutenant General Eichelberger's signature is seen on the bottom of the portrait. The bottom portion of the portrait is not sketched or painted as detailed. The lower left back of the painting is significantly torn. Chips of the skin on the back of the painting has peeled. The identifications of the seven ribbons are given below proceeding from the top row to the bottom and from left to right: Distinguished Service Cross (one golden oak leaf cluster), Army Distinguished Service Medal (two golden oak leaf cluster), Navy Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star (two golden oak leaf cluster), Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (with Valor Device), and Air Medal. On his right side, there is a Distinguished Unit Badge with a gold oak leaf cluster.
