- Description
- General John Hartranft, Republican, ran for Governor of Pennsylvania in 1872 and served as governor from 1873-1879. After the Civil War ended he was appointed to Commanding Officer of the Old Capitol Prison. He read the death warrant for the Lincoln conspirators that were executed.
