Shoulder Buckle, Winfield Scott, 1852

Description:

In 1852, Winfield Scott attempted a president bid, playing on his successful military career. This shoulder buckle points to Scott’s iconic military style – “Old Fuss and Feathers” was often seen in a complicated, heavily ornamented uniform. Unfortunately for Scott, his Whig party was beginning to crumble nation-wide, and unlike Generals Washington, Jackson, and Harrison, General Scott lost his presidential campaign to Franklin Pierce.
