Description (Brief)
This engraved wood block was likely prepared to print an image in the publication "The Narrative of the United States Exploring Expedition, During the Years 1838, 1839, 1840, 1841, 1842, Volume 3," 1844. The image titled "Tanoa's Canoe" (see 1999.0145.353) produced as a plate engraving was likely used in its place to describe the same scene. The block is marked "Front View of Tanoa's Canoe, Feejee." The image was drawn by A. T. Agate and engraved by an unknown artist.
