- Javanese batik slendang or shoulder cloth, ca. 1914. 85" L x 19" W. Length of cotton cloth with a batik design in red, indigo blue, and brown. Elongated central diamond in red with scalloped edges, Plain dark indigo blue field with three concentric narrow borders all around; outermost with imitation fringe pattern. Worn by Javanese women as a wrapped upper body garment, a shawl or scarf, or as a carrying cloth.
