Calvin Murphy Basketball Card

Description:

This Calvin Murphy basketball card is number 31 in a series of 264 that was manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. for the 1972-1973 National Basketball Association season. The front of the card features a posed picture of the Houston Rockets guard on a pink background. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “Calvin is an expert baton twirler,” as well as a short biography and career statistics.

Murphy played for the San Diego/Houston Rockets for his entire 13-year NBA career. An excellent free throw shooter, Murphy twice led the NBA in the category, and in the 1980-81 season made a then-record 78 straight free throws. Murphy was named to an All-Star team in 1979 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993.
