- This Al Smith basketball card is number 196 in a series of 264 that was manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. for the 1972-1973 American Basketball Association season. The front of the card features a posed picture of the Denver Rockets guard on a yellow background. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “Al was offered baseball contract by Chicago White Sox,” as well as a short biography and career statistics.
- Al Smith played his entire five-year career in the ABA, the first three years for the Denver Rockets, the last two years for the Utah Stars. In the 1973-74 season, Smith led the ABA in total assists (619) and assists per game (8.1).
