Controller Calculating Machine Component
- Description
- This object was collected by Brooklyn high school teacher and historian of mathematics L. Leland Locke and held by the Museums of the Peaceful Arts in New York City before coming to the Smithsonian. The component consists of a frame supporting a shaft with ten gear wheels, a more complex mechanism, and a gear wheel that links to a crank with a black wooden handle. At the top of the more complex mechanism is a cam-shaped piece marked "Add." and "Mult."
