This curved black metal strip fits around model 144 (1985.0112.103), a model of a catenoid. A paper tag on it reads: [...] noid und Schaubenfl[...] v. L. Brill. S [...] Nr. XXVb.
It is one of a series of models designed at the technical high school im Munich under the direction of Alerxander Brill. The series was first published in 1882.
This example of the model was exhibited at the Columbian Exposition, a world’s fair held in Chicago in 1893.
