Four heating coils mounted on mica insulation; wire frame with extended side wires; ornamental porcelain base. The wire basket in this second D-12 model does not include wires connecting the sides to the central section that prevented the slice of toast from being removed from either end of the unit. Original owner died in 1908. No toasters are listed in Heating Units section of 1907 GE supplies catalog. 1909 catalog has what is essentially this item (p.10). Cost for plain-base unit was $3, or $4.50 with cord; $1 more for ornamental base. Specified at 600 watts at various voltages (from about 90 to about 130). 1911 and 913-14 catalogues show essentially the same item, with some changes in the wire frame. 1923 catalog shows new type.
