I have done some research on Charles Gaume and own an internal combustion engine designed and sold by him in about 1881-1883. Note that in this photo of one of his very early "electro-magnetic engines", that his initials in the attribution placard, C. B. J., are out of proper sequence. I believe his full name was Charles Jean Baptiste Gaume, in classic French style, and this is supported in many vintage references.
