Description
Model of lower jaw and teeth of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Alfred W. Chandler (1890-1978), the donor, was a dentist who spent his career with the U.S. Navy, rising eventually to the rank of Rear Admiral. Having recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Chandler enlisted in the Navy in 1917, a week after the United States joined World War I. He attended the first dental officer class at the Naval Dental School in 1923. He served as the Chief of the United States Navy Dental Corps from 1946 to 1948, and as dentist to several American presidents.
