An inscription on this spatula reads “WITH COMPLIMENTS OF / CHICHESTER CHEMICAL CO. / PHILADELPHIA / CHI-CHES-TER / FOR A GOOD MIXER.” The firm, which was in business by 1884, was known for its Diamond Brand Pills, widely advertised and known as an abortifacient.
