Surgical Set, Ophthalmological

Description:

Two wood boxes, each containing eight ophthalmological tools with ivory handles and “OTTO & REYNDERS” inscriptions. This belonged to William Irvin Wolfley (1838-1892), a physician who served as a Surgeon with the Union Army during the Civil War. Ferdinand Otto and John Reynders (fl. 1860-1875) made and sold surgical and medical instruments in New York.
