The papers of the Hungarian-born physicist and physiologist Georg von Békésy (1899-1972) came to the Library of Congress along with a few objects. The objects were transferred to the National Museum of American History in about 1983, with diverse other materials from several collections. A few bank notes from Békésy were taken by the Numismatics collection. The remaining materials from him came to the mathematics collection. They were assigned transaction number 1986.3180.
