Shaw studied at several schools including the University of Michigan, Cleveland School of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. His works were exhibited at various galleries in the United States and Mexico. Shaw taught at the Miami University and the Art Museum School of Clearwater, in Florida. From 1942 to 1959, Shaw was an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Southwestern Louisiana.
