Schuyler Colfax Baldwin (1822-1900) opened a photography studio in Troy, N.Y., in 1849, and purchased a Daguerrean Establishment in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 1851. The Kalamazoo Hospital for the Insane (now the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital) opened in 1859. This stereograph of that facility was made by Baldwin in the late 1870s or early 1880s.
