Lidless bulbous or bellied measure with galleried rim and cast circular stepped foot; half pint size. Molded band around upper body; line visible at seam. Hollow, D-section, S-curve ridged or crank handle with plain tab terminal; no strut. Rim exterior stamped "HALF PINT" on front and "JAMES.YATES" above "1/2" and "PINT" to right of handle; rim exterior also struck with three verification marks: a crowned "ER" for Rochdale at center next to two crowned "VR" marks. Crowned "X" quality mark on inside bottom.
Maker is James Yates of Birmingham, England; working, 1837-1891, and in business under his own name, 1860-1891.

Two deeply incised lines around rim and base with two shallow pairs around body. S-scroll strap handle has flat, stepped thumbrest and short terminal with cylindrical strut and diamond- or lozenge-shaped attachment. No touchmarks.
Bulbous or bellied measure with galleried rim, molded base, and embryo-shell thumb piece; gill size. Wide-rimmed, low-domed lid has slightly raised center and two incised lines at edge. One incised line around rim and two pairs around body. S-scroll strap handle with stepped thumbrest and semi-bud terminal; conical strut. Rim exterior stamped to right of handle "GILL" in incuse serif letters, and struck on front and side with three verification marks, two circular marks containing Prince of Wales feathers between "GR" and a crowned "VR" mark for Renfrew County.
