One inscription on this ophthalmoscope reads “PATENTED / JAN. 19, ’04.” Another reads “DE ZENG STANDARD CO. / MAKERS. CAMDEN, N.J.” Henry Lawrence DeZeng (1866-1929) invented several ophthalmological and otolaryngological instruments, and established the De Zeng Standard Co. in 1906. The referenced patent described a “novel means for securing or holding the lenses.”
