Length of Cheney Brothers Furnishing "Brocade", 1913. Medium weight, fairly stiff, jacquard-woven fabric with several supplementary weft yarns, in different colors, tied in plain weave into the ground, forming bands of color on the reverse and weft float patterning on the face. The warp yarns are spun silk, cotton, and twisted spun silk; the weft yarns are tussah (wild) silk and cotton. Revival styling, Rococo into Neo-classical transition period, combining floral meanders with supplementary warp-float stripes. Meandering roses in pinks, and white and green flowering vines on a pale green ground striped with golden yellow. (W. 50 in., L. 36 in.)

Printed in Chinoiserie style; island layout scenes with female figures having tea, framed by foliate scrolls, vases, and furniture; with flowers and butterflies, in beige, tan, browns, blue, lavender, greens, white, and black on an orange ground. (W. 30 in., 36 in.) Suitable for summer drapery or for items of apparel such as dressing gowns.

Over-printed border design oreinted along one selvage, of wild roses (full-blown and buds); lighter colored and smaller band close to the center, the roses get larger and more deeply colored nearer to the selvage edge. Length of all-silk, Cheney Brothers furnishing fabric; Jacquard-woven silk satin damask; Color: DuBarry rose. Width 50" Both crosswise ends are machine overlocked to prevent fraying. The design is based on late 18th century French models: flower baskets, wreaths and garlands with ribbons and bows. Design created through contrast between matte and shiny faces of the satin weave. It has 2 repeats across the width, and the repeat is 27" long. "Cheney Silks" is printed in gold on the right side of the fabric length at each crosswise end. This textile is related to T-2839 - design for satin damask; and T-2840 point paper draft of design T-2839.
