A charcoal and watercolor sketch on paper of a salvage depot at St. Pierre, France. Below a backdrop of five large windows, men and women are working in a large open space. The women are mostly engaged in carrying and sorting material. A group of men are on top of a pile of salvage on the left side of the drawing.
Charcoal, pastel, and crayon on heavy textured wove paper. The work depicts a camouflaged German airplane falling out of the sky. On the ground are two deceased German soldiers in a machine gun nest. A tank and wire entanglements are outlined in the background.

Beneath the sketch are two printed labels affixed to the cardboard mount. The label below the center of the sketch reads: "ARTILLERY HORSES IN THE RIVER AT / ANDILLY / BY W. MORGAN / TRANSFERRED FROM THE WAR DEPARTMENT / 2919". The label beneath the sketch and to the right reads "8. x15397 / ARTILLERY HORSES IN THE RIVER AT ANDILLY. / W. MORGAN".

It had two entrances, thus assuring the safety of those within."

Charcoal and ink wash sketch on thick white card. View from atop a set of stairs at Chateau Thierry. Village and low hills in background. There is an inscription (of several lines) on the lower left of the sketch that has been erased or is faded. Only the first line of this inscription--"Chateau Thierry"--is legible.
Charcoal and pencil sketch on paper. The sketch shows the buildings that line the waterfront of a city. The river is in the foreground and is bounded by a wall, with steps leading into the water. There are people along the river bank; two of them appear to be fishing. In the background is a large castle that rises above the town; this is the Château de Saumur. An original label on the drawing read, "A view of the city showing the chateau. The city is interesting as the location of an important American artillery school." On the reverse of the paper is a small sketch of an artillery gun.
Charcoal sketch on paper. The sketch depicts an empty city street. Flags fly from several of the buildings, while cannon occupy the far end of the street.
A catalog card indicates that an original label on the drawing read: "Drawing made the day before the French troops entered the city. The flags at the windows and the abandoned cannons are placed for this event [liberation of the city]. The nearer of the large buildings was a Soldatenheim [soldier's home] and the farther, the officers' club."
Charcoal sketch on paper. The focal point of this street scene is a large pile of debris in front of what appears to be a ruined church. Soldiers marching through the road.
Charcoal sketch on light green paper. The sketch shows a German outpost at Montfaucon, France during World War I. The outpost consists of a large trench with walls reinforced by wooden posts. The upper left corner of an entryway, perhaps to an underground shelter, is just visible in the trench. Glued to the card underneath the sketch is a label that reads "GERMAN OUTPOST, MONFAUCON/Looking toward Hill 204/BY E. PEIXOTTO/TRANSFERRED FROM THE WAR DEPARTMENT/2990."
Charcoal, gouache, and oil on paper. The work depicts a group of French engineers (in blue uniforms) clearing the wreckage of a bridge in Château-Thierry, France. A section of the bridge has entirely collapsed into the water. On the left, two American soldiers sit on an intact section of the bridge. The shell-torn buildings of the town line the far side of the water.

In the background on the left are airplane hangars with planes in them.
Pencil sketch, with touches of ink wash, on paper. The sketch is glued to a piece of card. The sketch depicts three buildings; the one on the right has a tower with a small turret that has a conical roof. On the far left, in the foreground, is the back end of a truck and a stack of what are possibly galvanized cans.
Charcoal, crayon, gouache, and blue wash drawing on heavy textured cream wove paper. The work depicts American soldiers marching German ("Boche") prisoners of war (unarmed, in green uniforms) through a street in a recaptured village on the Marne. A woman is sitting inside one of the badly damaged buildings lining the street. Deceased German soldiers are lying on the ground in the foreground.
