Christophe Agou was originally born in France in 1969, but moved to New York City in 1992, working primarily on documenting daily life. Prior to September 11, he “had never photographed anything that [one] would call ‘news’” (“Seeing is not believing…’, Christophe Agou). Agou arrived at Ground Zero after both planes had hit, and photographed mainly from the World Financial Center Building. Agou is still living in New York working as a free lance photographer, documenting daily life.
Christophe Agou’s photograph documents not only the World Trade Center remnants and their debris, but also the ephemera from the towers. This photograph focuses on a photograph of two children at a wedding, with other financial documents, and a poster of the American Flag are scattered around it. On these once white documents, one can taste a sample of the ash and debris that covered the surrounding areas. The condition of these documents speaks for the condition of their surroundings: damaged beyond apparent repair.
