Carving knife having a straight, drop-tip blade with integral single-groove ("Yankee") bolster and flat, rounded-edge ivory block handle; tang is secured with a single pin near center of handle. Small, Art Nouveau, repoussé chased pentagonal dish with slightly convex, cinquefoil well; no footring. Flared sides and everted rim with downturned edge are segmented by five sinuous ribbons overrun by a wreath of wild roses open at one corner, leaving an empty reserve. No monogram. Underside of well struck incuse with circular mark for "THE VAN BERGH S.P.CO. (arched) / ROCHESTER, NY (curved)" enclosing "QUADRUPLE / PLATE", and "5353" below. Double-bellied, baluster or pear-shape caster on pedestal base with a high-domed, friction-fit, perforated cover topped by a compressed ball. Repoussé chased C scrolls and flowers encircle body, cover and circular, molded foot; triangular reserve on belly is engraved "SP" in conjoined foliate script. Underside of rounded bottom struck with two concentric circles at center, "W. G. & [S.]" in raised serif letters in a rectangle above, and combined maker-date mark of "[G] / & / S" in an oval over a circle over "1 / 5 2 / 8" in a diamond or lozenge below.
"Bostonia" pattern bonbon dish. Small, shallow dish has flared sides ending in an octagonal or clipped-corner rim with downturned edge and a flat circular well; no foot ring. Plain; no monogram or surface decoration. Underside of well struck with two sets of incuse marks, an S-arc-and-rampant-lion logo above "STERLING" and "3953" at top, and "J.E. CALDWELL & CO. (arched) / 925 / STERLING / 1000 / PHILADELPHIA" in serif letters at bottom.
