According to the donor, this wheel ( and a yarn reel also part of this donation) descended in his family, and was said to have been used at Mount Vernon, George Washington's estate. .Edward Hall was at the time of the donation (1914) the President of Banks Business College in Philadelphia, PA.
Further research is indicated - George Washington's enslaved workers operated a textile making workshop for the estate.
