This linear index Crown typewriter was manufactured by the National Meter Company of New York, New York around 1894. The Crown typewriter had a design invented by Byron Brooks that was awarded patent number 272,023 on February 13, 1883. A letter could be selected with the pointer, and could be printed in uppercase by pressing the right “CAP” button. The left “FIG” key was pressed to print the associated symbol selected by the pointer.
