Barbara Latham (1896-1989) was a painter, printmaker, author and illustrator of children's books. Based in New Mexico, she also traveled extensively with her husband, artist Howard Cook, between 1928 and 1935. Latham employed a somewhat cubist style which grew more abstract by the 1950s.
Artists's book in red paper wrappers. Written, designed, and printed by Jenny Sapora, owner of the True Bug Press, Seattle, while she was a resident fellow at Women's Studio Workshop, Rosendale NY. Using the alphabet as an organizing device, the book brings together quotations and descriptions of women in printing and typography over time, from medieval nuns to contemporary artists. Pencil signed and numbered by the artist, number 20 in an edition of 120.

Mabel Dwight (1876-1955) created this lithograph as part of the Works Progress Administration-Federal Art Project in 1938. The Smithsonian acquired "Backyard" in 1941 as part of a government transfer of 54 prints in various media. The transfer of "Backyard" and other FAP prints came at a time when the Project was shifting its focus from fine-art printmaking to war-related posters.
Bertha Evelyn Jaques (1863-1941) traveled extensively in Europe and Asia. Her prints reflect these influences, especially from her time in Japan. Jaques helped found the Chicago Society of Etchers in 1910. At least twenty other etching societies, modeled on the CSE, were founded in the following two decades, which greatly impacted the development of printmaking in the United States.
