This trumpet was previously owned by Charles James “Charlie” Shavers (1920-1971), an American jazz trumpeter, who performed with jazz greats such as, Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, Sidney Bechet, and Lucky Millinder.
Conrad J. Gozzo (1922–1964) was an American trumpet player. He was a highly respected lead trumpeter and greatly in demand as a studio musician performing with music luminaries as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Les Brown, Pete Rugolo, and Henry Mancini.

This trombone was previously owned and used by William Russo (1928-2003), American composer, arranger, musician, teacher, and founder of the Chicago Jazz Ensemble. Russo composed more than 200 pieces for jazz orchestra. Throughout his career, Russo work included collaborations with Duke Ellington, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Stan Kenton, Cannonball Adderley, Yehudi Menuhin, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Cleo Laine, and Billie Holiday.
Made of molded brown plastic with metal trim. The inside is lined with brown plush. Accessories inside the case include: Olds trombone mouthpiece, lyre, tube of Trombotine, cleaning wire with brush ends, and a bottle of Sure Slick trombone slide lubricant. (empty). Accompanying this brass ear trumpet is a note from Irene Amato, which reads: “This ugly instrument has been made obsolete by the genius of Dr. Julius Lampert from a grateful patient.” Julius Lempert (1891-1968) was born in Poland, moved to the United States in his teens, became a physician, established the Lempert Institute of Otology in New York, and developed an operation for relieving deafness, at least in some cases.
