- Sewing box in the form of a grand piano, made of rosewood, trimmed and inlaid with light wood. SImulated keyboard inlaid on cover (five tune keys). Cut-red velvet-covered tray has depressed receptacles for holding various sewing tools and utensils. Not all fitted tools are in their places. White silk cushion over tray. Paper under lid in inscribed in pencil "Agnes H. Thornton from her husband Thomas F. Thornton. She died in 1837, 20 yrs. old. Mother of S.C. Brown.

- Embroidered square with unfinished edges; meant to be a cushion cover or perhaps to be framed? A beautiful example of needle-painting embroidery work, made about 1900 by Mrs. Nellie Fuller Gibson. Silk embroidery threads on plain weave white linen ground. Design of poppies in a circular layout with leaves and stems; worked in many shades of red and green.

- Description
- Canvas work embroidered chair seat. Wool on linen canvas. The date "1750" in silk cross stitch. Probably New England. Thread count is 32 x 27 to the inch. Cut to shape as a chair seat, but also cut after embroidering to fit a chair. Depicts a male figure at bottom, with large flowering branch design, and a few animals. Design elements are not to the same scale. Design shows Moses at the burning bush, flowers, two animals, butterfly. Shoes on ground behind Moses. Hands, face, and shoes worked in petit point. Colors: brown ground, pinks and salmon pinks, red, blues, greens, yellows, white. The back has been reinforced and stabilized with white linen stitched along the sides. The reverse shows the original colors of the embroidery wools very clearly.

- Counterpane made of two strips of 44-inch, stout, handwoven, cotton muslin seamed up center and embroidered in an ornate design-center vase and floral forms (Tree of Life), corner motifs, and vine border, suggestive of Indian and Chinese patterningexecuted in a variety of stitches (blanket, button hole background, close buttonhole, Cretan, feather, figure, herringbone, Japanese, knotted, satin, star filling, and stem) with coarse, 3-ply cotton thread. Finish, applied 4 1/2" woven, cut fringe with fancy, openwork, self heading. .Dated May 8, 1822, and made by Hetty Bradley, daughter of Major John Bradley of Revolutionary fame, and a sister of the donor's great-grandmother. plantation near Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Yellow ground; outline drawing stamped in blue; map of Florida showing major cities and physical features; sword fish to right, palm tree and sailboat to left; "Florida" printed at bottom; dash border. Inscription written in black ink: Copyright, 1959, Anna W. Mattocks. Submitted to Library of Congress for copyright March 17 1960. LOC's copyright listing gives another name, "Novelty Mfg & Sale" as attached to the design, but no addresses for Mattocks or this firm.
